What rules does the 2010 Prius computer follow for EV mode? for instance, when the reaching the limit of the battery's safety margin, are you just kicked back into full hybrid mode, or does the engine start running to top up the battery, but with the emphasis still on the motor for traction, etc. Also, has the maximum EV speed been increased from 42 mph (as Ford claims it has done in the Fusion hybrid)? In a related question, I saw somewhere in this forum that a 2nd stage of gear reduction has been added to the PSD (Power Split Device) in the 2010 model. Does anyone have a diagram of what this looks like?
I think we have a few people out in LA right now who are just learning the answer to your question. Unfortunately they won't be able to share it with you until March 25th. But, chances are it will behave exactly like the 2G EV mode. There will be a threshold for amperage draw and SOC level where EV kicks out completely and the car goes back into normal operational mode.
EV mode is just for kicks... journalists reported Fusion is very hard to get into higher speed EV modes and doesnt stay there for long (obviously because batteries dont have enough juice).
I'm not sure what the Fusion has to do with the EV mode in the Prius. ?? They are not the same systems.
I attached a couple of photos of the 2010 MGs here, in post #10. However they may not provide sufficient detail for your purposes. http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-main-forum/58996-2010-prius-preview-l-wow-fun.html
