no the programing isn't in the computer like the 2k4-5 models.

 

As Frank says. I tried to get a discussion going involving "hidden screen buttons" 4 months ago, but lacked co-conspiritors. Watch for it next 1 April.

If you "force-charge" the HV battery, the 2001-2003 will EV a bit longer with ultralight use of throttle, but that's it.

You can EV all day long on a -3% grade road, or at least until the ICE coolant falls below 70oC. Or some number close to that.

 

drops to 59C and it'll start and run to 70C and go into stealth again.

 

on the G2 Prius the car will go into EV mode right from cold. No need to get it to temp first.

also do a search here on PC and put "4 stages of hybrid operation" in the search and read about the real hybrid operating mode. S4 is where you want to be, that's when all the fun begins.

 

At a standstill at least, another ICE control strategy figures in. When the HV battery state of charge falls to 50%, ICE starts, and when SOC rises to 52.5%, ICE stops. Did I remember those setpoints correctly, Frank?

So even if you fool the temperature sensor, the battery SOC will probably throw some ICE at the issue.

 

DAS I think your right on the BSOC figures. Controllable stealth just isn't in the Classic cards.

I need to swap in a weaker accelerator pedal return spring. That thing is a monster.

 

I know what you mean and the next defective sensor on a Toyota forklift that gets changed I've got dibs on the thing as well. Also the next one junked out I'm hoggin the spring too.

 

also the O2 sensors play a big role in the operation of the ICE. If they are allowed to cool the ICE starts.

Actually, on my '05 the ICE doesn't start until after the battery bars drop into the 2nd from last (red). Also, it seems to vary when the ICE stops. Sometimes the ICE will run until the energy display shows three battery bars (2~3 minutes), more often the ICE runs only a short time ~30 seconds.

Its not clear how to relate the battery SOC to the number of bars shown

 

about 5 months ago or so someone posted here on PC a graphic relating to bars and voltage and BSOC. I'll try searching and see if I can locate it.
