Came across this: Blue box - twice the USA density Somehow this makes sense. Norway is an oil producer but they sell all they can. The others are fighting oil import costs and China, severe air pollution. A country that pays for the healthcare of their citizens is going to save money with less air pollution. So I see the major drivers for EV adoption: COST - both direct and indict health benefits EFFICIENCY - saving the individual money to drive "climate change" - not so much although it plays for some Bob Wilson
Did GM and Firestone kill the electric trolley? I don’t think so. I think it was ultimately supply and demand. There is no need to worry about BEV adoption. It will happen in time according to supply and demand. In ten years, I would guess about half of new cars sold in the US will be BEVs. The technology and infrastructure is not quite there yet. It's a web site by International Energy Agency (iea.org) and they track BEV, FCEV and PHEV sales. Global EV Data Explorer – Data Tools - IEA Hybrid (hev) vehicles were NOT counted. Remarkably, PHEV sales are are typically about a little over a third of total EV sales for 2024 compared to previous years which were a little less than a third of total EV sales. FCEV sales are almost non-existent or about 5400 of total EV sales for 2024 compared to 17,500,000 EV sales. For that graph, PHEV sales were 6,500,000, BEV 11,000,000 sales. Might be due to expanded PHEV models being offered - Toyota sells 2 models and Lexus sells 3 models for instance. Interestingly the Nordic countries, lead the way and are 1, 3, 4 and 8 in the standings (not sure if Iceland is considered Nordic).
