One of the better 'Fan Splainers' for the still-gestating College Football Champion system. College Football Playoff: Each team's chances of making four-team field TL ; DR 1 Georgia 2 Michigan 3 TCU (TC-who?) 4 USC 5 Ohio 6 Bama My Prediction: I'll be wrong. Fourth place will be up for grabs and despite the fact that the Buckeyes clutched horribly in front of a home crowd, they might face Michigan in a rematch. Bama is a dark horse. USC is my clutch prediction. In the end, Jawga repeats, though almost certainly not against the same opponents....with the same outcome.
You are getting into deep grass here. Being from SEC country I have to ask - what do you think Michigan- Ohio State or TCU's records would be is they had to play of full slate of SEC games against Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi State etc ?
SOS (strength of schedule for outlanders....) is already priced into the ranking. At the end of the day, and with only 4 slots to fill it's fairly easy math....and besides.....$$. There's much money in the alabaster wastelands on the coasts, which is one of the reasons that the championship game this year is being held in a quaint little 70,000 seat facility out on the left coast, instead of a more proper venue. Butts in seats look good on screens but at the end of the day it's the number of screens that's driving this bus. Besides.....no team with 2 losses has (yet) made it to the big dance. Many people out there are slobbering over the possibility of a 12-berth playoff. Meh. I was not born in SEC country much to my everlasting shame, nor was I raised as a congregant of this church of the prolate spheroid. I grew up in ROUND ball country, and one of the things that I learned year over year in March is that there's ALWAYS a jilted team or two that didn't make the cut in a 68 slot, 7 round, single elimination tournament. 12 slots? There's ALWAYS going to be an unlucky 13th team whimpering about strength of schedule. Don't like it? Switch to an easier conference.
That leaves the door open for Ohio to clutch again.... One more "upset" [sic] and things will get reeeeeeally interesting. This might be one of the few times in modern history that I root for the tigers on Saturday.. (although their new coach looks promising!)
Welp. The Bayou Bengals gave Georgia a good game! I actually like their new head coach a lot and I think that LSU did the very best they could with what they had. Similarly, the Boilermakers of Purdue came up short in a really stout effort for a team that was unencumbered with ranking. Too bad....
