Interesting story from the NY Times on how one Texas Utility deals with its excess night time wind power by giving it away for "free": http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/09/business/energy-environment/a-texas-utility-offers-a-nighttime-special-free-electricity.html Very nice for BEV and PHEV owners there.
wow, pretty sweet! how did such a backward state become so progressive? then again, i'm not sure i want to be disconnected from the national grid.
I was reading comments from the former Exelon CEO saying how much wind power is hurting nuclear due to causing the night-time power to be such low returns. Thus (some) utilities are very anti-wind including Exelon and I suspect my utility also. Those ulitities much prefer solar, which allows does not interfere as much with the baseload plants at night.
