I got an extended warranty from the dealer toyota extra care platinum for my 2012 PIP. 6 years 75000 miles for $2175. I am having buyer remorse on it. I have 30 days to cancel it. Should I cancel it and can I get a better deal and should I get the extended warranty at all. Can I purchase one at the end of the 36000 period.
The car has a 7 year/70k mile warranty on the power train. It sounds like you are paying at least in part, for duplicate coverage. My dealer paid for a 20 year, 200k mile powertrain warranty from Fidelity. They do that on every new Toyota they sell.
Sorry to say, you got ripped off. Check Prius Chat, especially for the name Troy. I copied the following from Yelp, and agree that his prices are totally legit., and he is honest. I bought extended warranties for my 2005 Priuses, and there were no problems. And yes, you have until 36,000 miles or 3 years, whichever comes first, to buy the extended warranty. Here's the info from Yelp: For a totally legit way to save at least 50% on a Extended Warranty from Toyota, email Troy Dietrich atinfo@toyotaofgreenfield.… or TDietrich@factorydiscoun…. He will email you instructions to send him via snail mail a letter declaring the current mileage on your car as well as a copy of your registration and form of payment. A few days later he'll mail you back the receipt for the transaction. Then a few weeks later, Toyota of America will mail you your official Extended Warranty card. Troy also sells discounted warranties for Scions and Lexuses.
Put that money in the bank and cover it yourself. That way, there is no restrictions on what is warrant or not when you really need to fix it.
What stu said, I got my RAV4 warranty from Troy, around $800, genuine Toyota Platinum. So cancel your warranty ASAP, but you have until your factory warranty expires to get an extended warranty.
I got the extended warranty from Troy for my 2005 Prius many years ago, and it's paid for itself several times over. His prices are much, much lower than what you paid, and he's totally legitimate.
Do you get anything more with the Platinum (bennies, perks etc.) than with the 3-year that comes with the car? What is Troys price for the AT model?
what does this warranty actually cover that the existing manufacturer warranties don't? this might be of interest to you to think about it in general: #243 but usb's advice is generally correct. just invest the money in a CD and then in 3 years use it if you need to. after 6 years, take a nice vacation.
