I searched and found this thread: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii-2010-prius-audio-electronics/63379-xm-antenna-jack-location.html What I'm wondering is if anyone has successfully attached the built-in XM antenna to a non-OEM XM receiver? I have one I've used for years, and would like to be able to just plug it in the external stock XM antenna, if the jack is compatible, or can be easily converted. Does anyone have experience with removing the center console and verifying what the jack or cable leads are? I don't mind taking the console out if I think there's a good chance I can find and use the existing leads. I could, of course run my own antenna or use a portable with built-in antenna, but there are advantages to having an external roof-mounted XM antennal.
I don't think anyone has confirmed the antenna is external. I do know that if you add NAV, the antenna is placed in the dash - I would highly guess that is true for XM also.
The factory specifications have numerous references to the XM/FM antenna on the top of the car. It is a combined antenna, and the link I originally posted also refers to the terminal end/jack under the center console. It's very clear the XM antenna is part of every package, even the II, which doesn't have XM-ready receiver on board from the factory. Apparently they just hook the antenna lead up and go - but I suspect the cable connection is some kind of proprietary plug, or part of a multi-plug that fits the XM adapter unit and also provides power, etc. It would be nice to know for sure, prior to disassembling the console and testing leads. Anyone?
It is a proprietary plug that was suppose to be under the center armrest console. I didn't find it so I suspect it may be further under the center shelf. An adapter like this Lexus IS and LS Shark Fin Antenna Adapter will work. There are two different adapters and it depends on the end plug as to which will work. Also I suspect you could get audio into the factory radio using the wires in the blue plug which is in the factory XM unit or under the console in XM ready Prius. Wayne
