I bought a used 2015 Prius with 38k miles and discovered I could barely fill it with gas. Could only dribble in gas. The dealer checked all the charcoal canisters and system and with Toyota tech determined the main gas tank/bladder "flapper valve" failed. This was a +$1300 replacement of the gas tank/bladder. This car was purchased used from a local dealer and been bought in auction from an LA rental agency. I have previously owned a 2009 Prius which was bullet proof. I am going to appeal to toyota customer service. What are my chances on this getting Toyota to cover this?? The dealer who did the repair said it was put of warranty at 36k miles. Here's hoping to no other issues!!!! Wrichstrom Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
there is no bladder in the 2015. any way of finding out what they did in more detail? it's worth a shot with toyota, sometimes they do, and sometimes they don't. all the best!
If I'm correct this is part of the Federal Emission Control Warranty. You might want to check into this. Review the attachment under "Evaporative Control System".
Just a side note to my previous post: Under the "Evaporative Controls" section you'll clearly see a "control valve" is mentioned. Any time there is a possibility of any fuel spillage due to a DEFECTIVE (not damaged) part in the fuel tank would be covered. This Federal Emission Control Warranty coverage is 8/80 8yr/80K. You definitely have a case. Your dealer needs to study up on the Emissions Warranty Regulations.
Thank you all, I called Toyota customer service today, and have a case number. I will point out the evaporative controls section tomorrow. You guys are the best!! WrichStrom. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
