LEXUS TAKES THE “PREMIUM” OUT OF ITS HYBRIDS
The hybrid version of any car tends to only be available on the higher trim levels, making an already pricy package even more expensive. But Lexus is finding success by taking “some of the premium out” of its hybrid models. Or in other words, making them less expensive. According to WardsAuto, in the first quarter, RX Hybrid sales are up over 33% and the NX is up close to 170%. Lexus will do the same with the new ES sedan that just debuted at the Beijing auto show and is currently only seeing a hybrid take-rate of 10%. That could be a nice shot in the arm, sales wise, for a vehicle that has been the best-selling Lexus car since...bwilson4web May 1, 2018 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 873 Likes: 0 Replies: 4 -

Chris Anthony of Aptera joins us for the full hour. Chris was part of Aptera generation 1, left the company, and is back to get generation 2 off the ground. It’s not a stretch to say that even though we really want all EV manufacturers to succeed, we’ve been skeptical of Aptera. Chris is a […]

Off the shelf EV
Source1: https://cdn.borgwarner.com/docs/default-source/default-document-library/integrated-electric-drive-module-product-sheet.pdf?sfvrsn=bd27b23c_6
- 80 kW(108 hp) - maximum continuous
- 135 kW(180 hp) - peak power
You'll still have to provide charger, battery, and battery manager. But this would be a great kit to convert retro-bodies to EV. Say a 1960s VM MicroBus, body length pack, and replace the drive train.

Plug_in Incentive and Hybrid Tax Updates (CA WA DE ID SC)
Wow lots of late breaking news. I will try to add details later:
1. Washington State at the last minute saved its EV tax credit and extended it to Plug-Ins. Only cars less than $35k but Plug-In Prius is excluded for insufficient battery capacity (need 30 miles). So we can possibly see why Toyota needs a bona fide 30 miles next PiP2.
2. Delaware has added ~$2000 EV/Plug_in incentive looks like PiP might be included! Not sure if PiP gets the full amount. The DE FAQ section specifically mentions PiP as an example, unless PiP is unobtainium it appears PiP is included. DE is CARB-Lite (not 150k for batts).
3. California has modified the CVRP rebate program slightly for less payout to higher income folks
4. Bad news: Idaho had added a new Hybrid tax of $75/yr and EV fee of $150/yr ...more on this later...I can only quote what Va. Gov Terry McAuliffe said when asked by a reporter: "Do you really think a hybrid fee discourages sales (in Va.)?" Va....
