Experience with this battery? It's the lowest price I can find locally with a AAA discount at $170ish with tax. Our Optima yellow top is over 6 years old, and the OEM Yuasa battery failed at 6 years. So I'm thinking of replacing the yellow top proactively to avoid getting stranded in an inconvenient situation like last time. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
from what i have read, all batteries come from the same factory. the only difference seems to be price and warranty. i have not read of any battery failing in less than the normal average, except for possibly a bad batch of optima's at one point
I've got an Optima Yellow Top, been in there 6 years as of September. Proactively, it's time. We're often driving as little as once as week, also says "it's time". But: It's garage stored, and I keep it plugged into a CTEK 4.3 charger, pretty much constantly. Morning after a good drive (and before hooking up charger), the battery reads 12.8~12.9 volts. Checking with a Solar BA5 (electronic load tester), it has CCA well above spec. And I have a couple of replacement battery available: a Motomaster from Canadian Tire for $259 CDN (plus GST/PST and $20 core charge), the OEM Yuasa via mail order from SaskBattery for $229 CDN (with no shipping charge, core charge, or provincial sales tax, just 5% GST). Oh, and the other day for giggles, I checked dealership price for aforementioned Yuasa: $340 CDN please... The mind boggles: it's roughly $110 CDN cheaper through saskbattery, even though it shipped from west coast coast, to Saskatchewan, and then back to me, lol. Anyway, I'd test yours, or get it tested. Most automotive retailers selling batteries will do an electronic load test for free.
I have not been testing the voltage on the battery, and I don't have a load tester, but I do put it on a battery charger/maintainer weekly. The brake booster that pressurizes the system, when the driver's door is opened, definitely sounds more vigorous after the charging session. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
AFAIK, the Napa AGM battery is made by East Penn manufacturing (also sold by Deka and some Duracell models.) I generally have few problems with East Penn batteries- it's what I use in all my cars for years (since Interstate went to crap). Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
