When I participated in the Prius Challenge back in March, one of the avenues TRI shared during the event was to further autonomous driving. I was never under the impression that this event was “just for fun”, but had a “What’s In It For Me” aspect as renting out the Sonoma Raceway for a week probably doesn’t come cheaply. The had a Lexus that was outfitted with many sensors, cameras, FLIR, etc. and once we completed our course run, they took out the autonomous car for comparison, albeit it without traffic. The claim for 2018 is a similar competition will be had, only next year the autonomous car will compete. So it seems theba stages approach. But the technology is developing and soon we’ll see more out there. The Leaf looks great and I would be interested in test driving to stay back on topic.
Not only read up, but patiently awaiting a test drive at the local Lexus dealer. But the purchase of the RX in July will put those after test drive plans by the wayside. It will be hard to compare to the LC test drive though.
