Can't believe I've been driving my Prius almost for a year. Since I don't drive too much, my odo is still below 7k miles. I am wondering if I need to change the oil though it hasn't got 10k yet. Any comments? Also if I want to change the oil anyway, I assume it won't be covered by Toyota care. Is that right? Has anyone tried to use the 10k free oil change in advance?
I never make it over 2 months before I change based on mileage, but it really is 10,000 or 1 year for you, so Toyota should agree.
Thank you folks. Now I am reading the Toyota care brochure, but there is nothing about 1yr thing. I guess I need to call my dealer. I will post the result soon.
This may be counter intuitive, but driving fewer than 10,000 miles per year may call for a different set of rules where you change the oil more frequently. Oil change intervals are based upon a combination of viscosity breakdown and contaminant build up. Some contaminants like "dirt" are relatively benign, but others such as acids should not be left there to chew away at you engine. I suggest that you consult your service adviser at Toyota. Oil changes are rather inexpensive in the grand scheme of things, and the oil is recycled anyway.
It doesn't... our new Rolla came with Care but it wasn't until we got a mailer telling us we missed our 6 month/5K did it even mention the time interval. Slight over-site on there part.
Update: Thank you folks! I got a free oil change (toyotacare) even with <7000 miles. I should have done this for my 5k service too.
