I am approaching my first oil change and was planning to do it myself. I have owned a toyota for the past 15 years and have always done the maintenance myself. Except for things like transmissions and mufflers, I have always done all the work on our cars. Is there anything I am risking by just doing my own oil changes and paying attention to any warnings instead of getting the standard $$service$$? When I bought the car, the dealership said the car was so complicated that I had to bring it for maintanance.
Change the filter and gasket. Use Mobile 1 - 5-30 synthetic oil. Put in 3.9 quarts, not 3.8 or 4.0 and your Pri will be happy. , Do the other routine maintence tasks as called for in your service book, eg tire rotation, etc. I suggest 42 front, 40 rear. It will give you a 3 to 4 mpg increase. Arizona Charlie
