When I use the SAT radio the audio is great. I noticed when I switch to FM I have to turn the volume up above 50 to get a mediocre sound. Why does the FM radio sound so terrible compared to the SAT radio?
Are you comparing SAT to an HD-FM signal, or to a regular FM signal? I have a feeling that the HD was made to sound comparatively better by handicapping the regular FM.
I notice a huge difference between the sound levels, but not so much the quality. I turned my bass up to 2 from max, and treble and mid to 1 over medium and its sounding great with my ipod. I was about to get new speakers.
If your PIP radio is similar to my non-PIP HD version, it will have an HD indicator light up on the screen when HD is being received. If the station does not broadcast in HD, or if the signal is too weak to decode the HD, it goes to regular FM mode, which seems to have a very noticeable reduction in quality and bandwidth. But the fact that you are turning the volume up to 50 is evidence that yours and mine are not identical. I would need hearing protection.
Here we go again, there are several threads, large ones at that, that condemn the Gen III FM radio as a useless POS! If enough people complain, maybe something will be done. The radio in my wifes HyCam sounds great, FM and HDFM work and sound fine, although see uses XM 98% of the time!
