It seems our 4 year old Australian Shepherd/Collie mix has developed a new chewing habbit, and one set of my 2002 Prius keys/fob were one of his recent pleasures. While the key was slightly damaged and won't stay on a ring, the FOB was damaged beyond usability. For now, we've gotten by w/ the one good set, and the key hole still operates the power locks. However I like keeping things in working order so am considering a replacement if the price isn't prohibitive. I've found a site or two which has the fob for <$80. Does anyone have experience buying FOB's from online sources that would be less expensive than a dealer part? I can add the new fob to the car myself w/o a hitch - just need input on sites to check (assuming this is a kosher forum to ask this question in). Thanks!
I tried buying one off of ebay when I though I had lost my second (it ended up being found in my girlfriend's car by the car wash person 8 months later.) Although the seller claimed it was a Prius fob, it wasn't, and he refused to believe me that I couldn't program it. I hope you have better luck Rick.
Of course, if you had the '04 keyless entry and start, you could have just waved the dog near the car door, and sat him on your lap to drive to the vet...
