Is it only the Model IV and V that comes with footwell lighting? Is it only up front (driver/passenger) or is it also located in the rear? Is it the same color lighting for all color cars? Anyone have any good quality photographs of it?
Is it always on, when the headlights are on? Or is there a switch for it somewhere? Does anyone know if the lights are easily swapped out? (for a different color)
On the IV and V there is an LED amber light where your feet go which illuminate downwards to light up the footwell area. Only the front driver and passenger footwell area...
Sorry to ask twice, but do the lights come on automatically with the headlights or is there a switch to turn them on?
I just went in my garage and tried it. They come on once you open the door. They stay on once the car is started, even with the headlights off. The headlights do not affect them. What does is putting the car in drive, that reduces their intensity. Then, once you go into Park again, they get brighter again.
I'm sure like anything, they can be swapped out. It just depends on your level of do-it-yourself adeptness whether it is 'easy' or not.
That's how it was when I tried it in the garage, I know shocked me too... I'm leaving for work in 5 minutes so I'll see if it stays on once I'm out and about. I'm wondering if it uses that light sensor on the dash and maybe if it is light outside they will not stay on? I'm going to check on the way home later as well and report back... But I'm thinking it may be like the LED inside the govebox of the GII, didn't that light stay on all the time even when the glovebox was closed? (or when the headlights were on it stayed on all the time, even with the box closed)
When I drove in this morning, they remained on, in 'dim mode', the whole commute to work. They were hard to see though as there are tons of street lights my whole ride in... So they remain on all the time basically, but in dim mode while in Drive, and in 'bright mode' while in park.
do you know what gets me? That the prius has auto dimming foot lights, but doesn't have auto on headlights? I know it's comparing apples to oranges in terms of energy use, but aren't the headlights far more important that a feature that some of us never even noticed?
oh... interesting. So it works differently than the Gen2's footwell lightning. Well it is there... just not in your country
I had an 06 Lexus IS that had the same lighted footwell feature. On the Lexus, they used a white LED. I was hoping for the same in the Prius but it's amber. Wonder if there is a way to change it out as I'm preparing to change all the other interior lights to white LEDs.
I'd be interested if there was any way another LED could be placed into that footwell circuit path for over that accessory storage space (someone called it a "purse holder" yesterday - hehe) underneath the flying console. A light there would make a lot more sense than those shining at my feet.
