Got our '05 Blue #4 last Saturday. Showed up at the dealer ready to put down a deposit and get in line, but lo and behold they had exactly what we wanted sitting there unclaimed and available. So we snagged it. Sweet. Fast forward to last night. On the way home from work, I find myself in one of those situations where traffic is stacking up fast. I brake hard and begin to aim for the next lane to the left and I manage to stop just short of the Subaru in front of me. Then WHAM! A '67 Chevy pickup nails me in the back, and rams me into the Subaru. Everyone is OK. Minimal visible damage to the Subaru's rear bumber. My right front is pretty well smashed. The wiper fluid reservoir was out in the street. Back bumper crunched but not torn off. The Prius managed to put a dent in the bumper and wheel well of the '67 Chevy. I'd say "Atta boy, Prius" if it wasn't so inappropriate. But our new baby is banged up pretty good. I read though the "Advice for the rear ended" thread. In our case the majority of the damage is in the front, and I'm concerned that the repairs will involve the drive system. I was able to move it to the side of the road under its own power, tho. Has anyone heard of a body shop working on any of that stuff? Right now it's at the towing company's lot. I'll have to go get pictures. Talk about a wet blanket on the new car buzz. Martin
Greetings Martin, Here is a weak attempt at trying to relieve some of your grief because I know despite what follows THAT SUCKS SO BAD! :cussing: :guns: : As always when things like this happen, the brightest side is that no one was injured. Also, if you look at it this way, you were surprised that you were even able to get the car so quickly. So per your previous expectations, you didn't even expect to have the car at this point but in actuality you got to drive one for at least 4 days. Of course this is only a good thing if they total out the car and you get a new one. If you have the GAP insurance then there should be minimal loss (monetarily) to you...still major loss in terms of frustration though. I know, they seem like weak reasons to cheer up, so maybe it's just better that I say, "I feel your pain."
Did the airbags deploy? Even if you could move the car under its own power, did ICE run? If ICE ran, and airbags did not deploy, then it probably won't be totalled.
