I am glad that someone got over the "if it is a hybrid, it has to get 50 MPG or it is worthless' mindset. 20 to 40% better is good even at truck MPGs.
Actually, 20-40% better is MUCH better at low truck MPGs than at high mpgs. If I get 10 mpg, I take 100 gallons to go 1000 miles. To improve by 40% to 14 mpg in my new hybrid truck, then I take about 71 1/2 gallons to go 1000 miles, a saving of 28 1/2 gallons or so. Now, suppose I get 30 mpg in my Corolla (as I did, more or less) and improve an even "better" 50 percent to 45 mpg in my Prius (I do a little better). In the Corolla, I would need 33 1/3 gallons for 1000 miles. In my Prius, I need 22 1/6 gallons for the same trip, a savings of only 11 1/6 gallons. Just the way numbers work.
i find it amazing how toyota hybrid system has influence other forms of transportation. cars, trucks, locomotives, and many others in one form or another.
