Source: America’s Fuel Economy Champions in Each Class The ranking for U.S. market vehicles thus defines the “best” as not the fastest, quickest, or most athletic necessarily, but rather the one that makes the biggest contribution in its segment by EPA rating. However, these winners culled from our HybridCars.com Dashboard are electrified, meaning they use gas part time – or in the case of battery electric cars, not at all. . . .The following are in Jeff's list but did not show up in the EPA list: Hybrid Sedan – Honda Accord Hybrid – 48 MPG Hybrid Crossover/SUV – Lexus NX 300h FWD – 33 MPG* PHEV Crossover/SUV – Volvo XC90 AWD PHEV – 25 MPG / 53 MPGe All-Electric Crossover – Kia Soul Electric 105 MPGe Combined, 120 City, 92 Combined Jeff's ranking over laps some of the top EPA www.fueleconomy.gov models. The EPA web site uses a simpler metric and may not include every model Jeff included (when I looked at it a couple of days ago.) Nice! Any idea what the future range of the all electric i3 will be? I agree that the existing amount is insufficient - at least for me.
The number 114 miles is being bandied about. Although often delayed 3-4 months, I recommend waiting for the EPA numbers. Bob Wilson
Typo. Fixed in the text. Will take a little longer for graph. Bob Wilson On a slightly different issue, "range extended EV." CARB has a precise definition of a range-extended battery-electric vehicle: Electric range of at least 75 mi APU range less than or equal to battery range APU only comes on after battery is significantly depleted Must meet SULEV Zero evaporative emissions fuel system The Volt range is too small and the APU can come on before battery depletion. In contrast, the BMW i3-REx meets these requirements. Bob Wilson
