This morning I filled up my Prius only because I came upon a station that was cheap and since I am going on a trip to NYC tommorrow I decieded to fill up even though the gas guage was one pip above half. It was cold 19F and only took 3.8 gals. So now after several resarts on my way back home the gas guage hasn't moved off the one pip above half. After reading several previous posts about the gas guage and the TSB, I think it's because the ECU doesn't recongize that I filled the car since it was such a small amount above 3 gals. My question is will the gas guage come down one the fuel level goes below what it was when I fill up thereby accuaetly reading when it gets close to empty or will it stay where it is until my next fill up? Thanks for your imput!
It will come down. You are correct that the added fuel did not register due to the small quantity. Tom
Thanks guys, mine just reset to full this afternoon. It warmed up to 27 so maybe that was just enough to make the gas expand just enough????
Mine is a 2007 and it resets after 2 or 3 starts or if it sets for about a half an hour if I fill it from above a half tank. Doesn;t do it all the time though, sometimes it works OK.
A similar thing happened to my '04 around three years ago. However, in that case they had to replace the gauge cluster and filler pipe as part of a TSB
That's nuts. The vehicle doesn't consider 1/3 of the total tank capacity, 1/2 the effective capacity sufficient to register?
