well we have 1700 miles now on our prius.my stupid question is,our gas cap no matter how tight you turn it will not click.wife seems to think we should be getting better mpg[45mpg avg].we drive in econo mode go up and down one long hill to town about 30miles total nothing over 55mph.car hasnt seen the interstate yet, being winter we take my truck.anyway she thinks the no click gas cap could be part of the problem, should i take it to the dealer and ask the wierd question?
My GII cap will click so I suspect yours should as well. But that isn't why you are getting poor mileage. It's winter. Winter will effect the Prius more noticeably than most other vehicles, mainly because you are always looking right at the mileage figure on the dash. If your cap was leaking air you would eventually get a check engine light. It takes a while, but it does come on.
Yes, the GenIII caps click as well. No I don't think that is the problem. Please fill out the questionnaire in the Fuel Economy sub forum and we will see if we can help squeeze a few more mpg for you.
Mine doesn't click either, but it is definitely tight enough as the check engine light would come on if it didn't.
Mine clicks once, softly. It is not like many others that will keep clicking for as long as you keep turning it. If you think there is a problem, stop by the dealership and ask someone.
+1 Mine clicked once only for the first two tanks---then nothing. No warning lights in the last 3-4 tanks---so my evap system seems to be happy enough. I just use German torque specs when I replace my cap (Goodentight.) Your poor mileage is probably due to a number of other factors. The questionaire listed previously should help----or just read the other mileage posts for some ideas. Good Luck!!
are you in a cold part of nevada? if you have to use heat, as someone said earlier, it's probably the cold more than anything else. 45 isn't bad in cold weather. if it's not cold, the questionaire should help. all the best!
ya its cold here, going into single digits tonight and maybe a few degrees below.we try to fill up at 1/2 tank in the winter to avoid moisture to form in the fuel tank.after reading the sub forums on mileage i see one factor i need to do is add a few lbs of air in the tires.did that in my old geo metro i sold and got 3-4 mpg more.but warming up a lil in the morning and heat on 72 plus a steep hill to go up and down 45mpg is not to bad.about 30miles round trip always in eco mode, use B for going down the hill sure helps to not use the brakes.not broke in yet either 1700 miles,we are at 5500ft above sea level.sorry about not reading the sub forum first, always doing things bass ackwards, lol.good reading, thanks,Bill
Don't worry about it shipmate! I haven't seen too many Forum Nazis on this site.:mod: Good luck with your mileage, and if nobody has told you before this....Welcome Aboard!
the thing about a big hill is that you will use a lot more energy going up than you will save coming down.
