I've noticed that the reading of the miles left on available gas has not been correct for sometime . Although I was having 3 bars on the gas meter , it showed that I have only 6 miles to go before refill . and this number (6 miles )start to decrease until it become zero even though I 've put some gas and the gas meter show 4 bars . Any suggestion how to fix this problem ?
You'll need to put more than a gallon or two in for the computer to register that you've added gas. If you're not filling it up all the way, that might be affecting the range estimate.
Manhal K Alrashdan - The "Range XXX Miles" miles left feature is not precise readout, and has idiosyncrasies in its functioning. It does not tell you the exact "Range XXX Miles" miles left until the tank is completely empty of petrol/gasoline. It is a conservative readout, which functions best when you fill the gas tank up completely (i.e. "top it off") each time you refuel in the Prius. Additionally, you must add a least 3-gallons of fuel before the computer will sense the added fuel. What you characterize as a "problem" is really a "quirk" of the "Range XXX Miles" miles left feature. I am guessing that the situation you report you are experiencing is a result of you doing partial fill ups of your gas tank. My suggestion on "how to fix this problem?" is to fill you gas tank up completely each time you refuel.
If you don't add enough fuel for DTE (distance to empty) to reset immediately, then its quirks render it meaningless until the next fill that does reset it. A single gallon at a time is not enough. DTE will not increase, it will continue to decrease a minimum of 1 mile for every 2 miles driven, even on a twenty mile no-fuel glide, until it reaches zero. This particular DTE behavior is vastly different than that of some other cars, such as my Subaru.
