Gas-stingy hybrid cars become hot item in S. Florida Chari Distler Ross of Parkland, who owns a 2004, salsa red Toyota Prius hybrid sedan, was at a coffee shop recently when a stranger offered her $30,000 for the vehicle, which carries a base price of just over $20,000. "People are always asking about it," said Ross, the technology service director and Webmaster at North Broward Preparatory Schools, who waited six months to get the four-cylinder vehicle. "People stop me on the street. They want to know what it is. It's a different kind of car."
i find it interesting that the lady is getting such a response from an otherwise unknowing public. she is most likely being approached by people like the ones in this forum who know nearly everything there is to know about the Prius because its been my experience that most people dont realize that the Prius is all that unusual until they ride in one. i recently started a new job and i drove my car to work for several weeks and finally someone happened to notice the touchscreen and asked about it so i gave her a quick ride at lunchtime. she was completely wowed by the car. by the time the next break came around i had a crowd of 10 people or more that wanted to take a look at the car. it has been pretty much the same story for the past two weeks now. I am now known as the Prius guy. mind you, i had my Priuschat coffee cup on my desk from day one and no one ever noticed it despite my conscious effort to keep the logo facing outwards when it was sitting on the desk. i admit, it was a major letdown when no one showed any interest in my car... but every thing is great now
