Here is the latest gasoline price heat map. Despite the fact that PA has (on the surface) surpassed CA in state gasoline taxes, CA still has the highest gaso prices. Reason given by GasBuddy is that CA has already starting switching to summer fuel (more energy content in summer fuel by the way maybe 2-3%). Gas Buddy did not mention the new CA carbon tax as a price factor, so I do not know if that's also a factor, not to mention all of CA has reformulated gasoline. Refinery maintenance season is not yet upon us, so more seasonal increases expected. Just before the recent tick up in prices, I did get one fill-up at $1.999/gal in northern VA.
