Today, I was parking the '05 Prius and noticed the gear shift stuck in the drive position instead of the usual "pop back" you experience when you put it in drive. The park button woud not engage. The same thing happens in reverse. The dealer said they have had to replace the gear shift on a bunch of cars with this sticky gear shift problem. This is a safety hazard...car kept moving when you think it's in park. Does Toyota know about this? Are other people experiencing this???
It's a known problem, but not really a safety hazard. I had the problem with my '04, especially in hot weather. I simply moved the shifter back to the normal position with my finger.
My shifter just started sticking last week. So far, I can move it back to its resting position easily enough. Others here have reported being able to fix it by removing a piece of warped plastic.
