Im thinking of buying a 2002 with 27,000 miles from an auction. Its been stored a long time and the 12v battery needed replacement . Im told it now starts and no warning lights. So I guess the HV battery must still be in good condition. Is that a correct assumption? Im not allowed to start it ,but I trust the info Ive received. The hybrid system is under warranty for over 1 more year. Will Toyota honor the HV battery warranty even though the car was stored?
Are you planning to buy this vehicle without first test driving it? If yes, this is a very risky move and I hope the price you are paying is correspondingly low to account for the risk. If you will test drive the car, then if it starts and no warning lights or driveability symptoms appear after taking a drive of reasonable length (30 minutes or more), it would be reasonable to assume that the major powertrain systems including the traction battery are OK. Good luck.
