everyone! I just purchased a 2008 Prius with 158k miles this past Tuesday. Friday, I hit a deer. I don't know yet if it will be repaired or totaled out. I am pretty sure it's a Touring, but I don't understand the packages 1-6 and what specific features are in each package. My car has leather seats, back up camera, Bluetooth, Smart Key and JBL stereo for sure. I want to know the full details of the car for my knowledge, but also to make sure I get the full value of it if it is totaled. So, if anyone can help me out with this, I'd appreciate it. I included pictures in case anyone has any knowledge of body repairs and if it's worth repairing or will be totaled. I know computer damage is something to take into consideration. I'm not exactly sure where the computer is on my car. Thanks!
Pix are a little too close - cannot see enough of the hood and bumper cover. From what it shows it looks like the driver's side front quarter panel took pretty much all of the hit. This is largely speculation (due to limits in the photos), but I don't see any damage to that headlight and the reflection off the door surface is compatible with no extra warp. Cannot tell if the hood is bent. It looks like part of the bumper cover, a little strip along the top near the back peeled up (probably the part that hooks into the quarter panel or onto the clip behind it), but the rest seems clean. If that is all it is, and there is no extra frame damage beneath it, then this should not be too hard or expensive too fix. A body shop would replace the quarter panel and bumper and paint them. However, if that is truly all that is wrong, it would be just as good to find those parts, preferably in the same color, at a junkyard, take the old ones off, put the new ones on. Most likely an assortment of little plastic clips were blown to pieces and also need to be replaced. For whatever it is worth, I see a couple of cars around here every day driving with more damage than that. Definitely want to check the alignment though, the driver's side front wheel could have taken a major blow and been knocked askew, possibly even bending something in there. Touring has a longer spoiler on the rear hatch, also P195/55R16 tires. Looks like the upper rad support and inner fender in red would take part of the impact, doesn't take much to do a number on the rad support. Just took a pic of my driver side project vehicle.
Yes best to check out the features on Toyota owners website. Often a base model with package 6 is mistaken for a touring model since it has almost all of the same options but lacks some like larger wheels. Also if you Google free Monroney Sticker, you can print out a facsimile of the one listing the as shipped options based on VIN that were on the original windows sticker. A good thing to have on hand. Insurance companies want to total it out so you have to turn it over to them and then they can collect thousands back from salvage. Even just the catalytic converter may bring them $1000 or more.
