Gen 3 non-JBL door speaker upgrade The attached .pdf shows my speaker upgrade using Pioneer speakers, Dynamat Extreme and some extra work to seal the door holes for better sound. Edit: 13 May, added some comments about the rear speakers to the .pdf
:thumb: Looks good. Since I am going to have to get into my doors to install my new mirrors, I plan to sound deaden. Looking around for a good alternative to Dynamat at the moment.
If you find something good for a reasonable price, let us know. I have heard that RattleTrap is good, also inexpensive, but it gets very mixed reviews. I have no experience with it. Dynamat is pricey. I got mine at Amazon, about $120 for 36 sq ft which is way below list price but still outrageous.
Would these work up in the dash of a 2010 prius without the jbl system? JL Audio C2-350x Evolutionâ„¢ Series 3-1/2" 2-way car speakers at Crutchfield.com I'm also considering getting these for the front and rear doors: JL Audio TR600-CXi Evolutionâ„¢ TR Series 6-1/2" 2-way car speakers at Crutchfield.com I have the Rosen deck, and I noticed the other day that my rear speakers are blown somewhat, so hate to just replace one set of speakers. Thanks for the help, Chris
Hey guys, I just purchased the above speakers for my 2010 Prius Non-JBL, and I discovered that the front door speakers look like this: And the rears look like this: Did I order the wrong speakers for the front? It looks more like a 6x9" speaker than a 6.5" round? Chris
Chris, I have probably the same 2011 non JBL, thanks for the Pictures. Did you figure it out yet and get the speakers to work. I might be doing the same project on my 2011 very soon. Did you have to use an adapter ect.? Let me know, if you can Thanks David
Just curious how it all went? I am planning on getting some 6x9 for the front of my Prius, and am wondering how the install went. From what I've read, the mounting depth of the factory speakers is rather shallow, so i'm interested in hearing how your install went.
Hey guys, Sorry for the delay. The speakers arrived weeks ago, and I just haven't had a chance to install them. I'm going to do it first thing Saturday morning if you can hold out till then. Sorry, Chris
Sounds good Chris... I got real interested when I saw the specs on the speakers and my need to find ones that match up w/ pioneer HU 22 watts RMS. Only to find out the speakers are discontinued.! Arrggg. There are still some for sell on e-bay and stores. So I am real interested in hearing what you think of them. What kind of power are you going to send to them?
Peter, I'll be running just the stock power output from the Rosen Head Unit, which I'm sure isn't much. I already installed the rear door speakers, which were the 6.5's if I remember correctly, and they seem to be working great. It's hard for me to tell the improvement of the rears, because my driver's side rear speaker was blown when I replaced it, so the sound quality now is obviously way better. One thing to note, though, in relation to sound output is that I have the rear speakers at +3-4 when compared to the stock fronts. So, that probably gives some clue as to the sensitivity of them compared to stock. But, it definitely sounds pretty darn good using these settings. I'm looking forward to replacing the fronts and the dash speakers. I'll keep everyone posted. I don't plan to attack the dash speakers this weekend, though, probably just the front door speakers. Chris
I replaced my rears w/ polks and with my HU, they just don't perform. I could get an amp but I bought the HU because of its output and really don't want to buy an amp. Anyway, thanks for working on it!
There is anopther thread going on with picture on the speaker upgrade, most have been putting in round speakers using a new mounting bracket, he made his own. If your handy you can make the plate too. 6x9 should be about the same. You have to watch the depth of the speaker and door panel. I will be doing mine soon.
I've been planning an audio upgrade as well, especially for the rears. They sound like they're full of mud - hardly anything comes out. I bought it used (2011 non-JBL) so they might be blown. Anyhow regarding sound dampening I've seen many folks on YouTube use a product called U.Seal or Peel n' Seal from Home Depot. It's quite a bit cheaper. Thanks for the note on trimming the adapter rings. I'll probably be doing the same. I'm thinking about Infinity Reference 6032cf 6.5-Inch speakers in the back but Crutchfield advises against it because of clearance. Has anyone had luck with those or other recommendations? I'm not needing massive bass or audiophile level equipment, just better clarity and quality. I'm using the stock header.
