So hey. Since I’m interested in a Gen 4 Prius I have a bit of confusion. I’m trying to find out exactly what trim to try and get. I have seen the trim list thread. But would like some confirmation please. And some help to pick the right one. I need the cheapest with features I want. I have a friend who’s a sales manager at a dealer going to look for me. We talked today. And I gave him the names of the trim levels. I said the difference could be year. But trims would be the same. Meaning which trim I might want. So he’s going to check. And he might be able to help with price. He said he’ll try for the most car for least amount of money. So what I’d like is premium sound. This is only on the Four right? And Four Touring? Can you get it on the lower trims? I’m not sure what to do. Because I can upgrade speakers later. And I tried a 2017 Two basic one. It had better then I expected sound. But was just ok. So I’m not sure what to do. Get a cheaper basic trim or with prem sound. I love playing music from Apple Music on my iPhone. Every time I hop in. I like electronic. I’m listening to Leftfield right now. On repeat. It sounded ok in the 2017 Two I guess. Im just trying to figure out what year and trim. Exact. To tell my friend specifically what to look for. But I really like the gen 4 and just want to like get my foot in the door. I don’t care what year. Yes. Some say only get 2018 or newer because of something. But not all cars always have problems. Every car is different. Some good. Some not. Some in between. And older cheaper I’m guessing. Which is odd cus I see newer cheaper at times. So I don’t know what to do. Anyway I’m just trying to figure out the cheapest with prem sound. And if I even might care much when the 2017 I tested sounded ok for now I guess. Sigh. So hard to decide. I am asking for help with making a decision. And picking the exact trim or package so I can tell my friend what exactly to look for. Like 2018 four with the name of the prem sound package if there is one. Or 2016 four with acp or whatever. Just need to be specific. I love the Prius Gen 4 and want one so much. I just need to figure out specifics and figure out what I’m ok with.
A lot of the 2017s, like mine, end up with a coolant leak at the heat exchanger, leading to big potential problems. Sanctioned fix is to replace catalytic converter, which is expensive and has a wait time. Yes there is much cheaper workaround (bypass), and there are many threads here on that stuff. But that's why you hear 2018 or newer. Maybe you can find a 2017 that already has this fixed. I think I saw here that 2018s may also have this problem. Features at trim levels vs what you will like or not like? I have no idea. But I do love my 2017 Four. I passed it on to my kid in the last 2 years, and it has over 300,000 miles now.
Thank you friend. I have to decide if a basic model is ok enough. Or hold out for trim with prem sound. Plus my friend just got the info for trim names that I thot made sense for me. But guessing it’ll take him awhile to find something. Sigh.
