I've been watching dealerships websites for stock changes - I'm suspecting that some new ones have arrived but they've kept photos of Gen 3 beside them - and another dealer, who has had the same vehicle VINs listed since before Gen 4 was released, changed all the photos to Gen 4. [I've not a lot of faith in Toyota dealer's websites in Australia.] The VINs which have been around for a few months start with JTDKN36 - would that indicate Gen 3? A couple have been listed recently starting with JTDKB3FU - any idea what that would indicate? thanks, Alan
At this stage, with almost no Gen 4s in the country, I was avoiding annoying salesmen. I've been watching dealer's websites for when Gen 4s start appearing, but some have just changed the photos of Gen 3 stock which has been there for months to Gen 4 photos. This is one which has been listed for a while: JTDKN 36U405766774; but this is a newer listing, which I was wondering if it's a Gen 4 JTDKB 3FUX03501264

Thanks - yes, that's the one I asked about - but it doesn't indicate if it's Gen 3 or Gen 4. Both have photos of Gen 4, but the first is definitely a Gen 3.
Not necessarily. Two generations can have the same MY IIRC. Other countries use the CY as the MY. (so there was a limited number of 1997 Prii - those that were built in December 1997. The rest were 1998 Prii). Or another example. Our 2010 Prius was launched in May 2009 but for the rest of the world, that was the 2009 Prius.
