Last year when I was getting it inspected at a friends local shop and he had it hooked up to the computer the engine shutoff. He was able to get the info he needed to pass the test. This year I think I should leave the lights and air on while he runs the test so the engine keeps running until the test is over. Is that the right thing to do while it is hooked up to the NYS inspection computer? Thanks
One trick you could do is use the 'N' position of the 'gear' selector - if the engine is on when you shift into 'N' it will stay on (and not charge the traction battery, so don't leave it like that for a long time).
Two years running I have taken the car in, asked for an inspection, and driven away with a sticker. I don't think you have anything to worry about.
I just had my car inspected in Port Jervis at a local shop. My experience is the same as brick. Drove in and drove out 20 minutes later with a sticker. I'd think that most inspection places are used to doing a Prius since they've been around for 10 years (I think).
