Combined Global LEAF and Volts Sales Surpass 75,000 | PluginCars.com 21,600 prius phvs have also been sold according to wikipedia leading to 97,331 For the US Leaf 16,484 volt 27,306 prius phv 9623 or 53,413 (55% of world wide volt, prius phv, and leaf sales) in the US.
just needs different vehicles, variations and some time and it will build up. Next year will see Accord PHV and Tesla S hopefully add to these numbers. Maybe few Ford's?
Yes. We are over 100K plug-ins globally in less than two years. Estimates were for more but these are still really good numbers. Prius phv should gain some traction as dealers get used to selling it. The two ford energi models and the Tesla S should add to sales at least in north america. Nissan seems may keep lease rates low as lower cost US production comes on line in December. accord phv also should arrive. Hopefully plug ins will gain some more traction in europe too, I'm not sure how the zoe will do. Chart is just january through july. Good data. Assuming $7500 per vehilce the Leaf+Volt sales in USA that represents $330 Million of federal tax credits to Plug-In buyers to date. So possibly approaching $half billion tax credits including state incentives.
If you add in the prius phv to the volt and leaf we are at about at $350M in 22 months. If you are worried about its impact on the federal budget, the $4B/year in oil subsidies that obama wanted to cut amounted to 7333M in the same time period. The oil subsidies are not even the low hanging fruit in the deficit of 1.27 T. That tax credit if it was repealed might reduce it in 2013 by as much as 0.03% a rounding error on the budget. The low hanging fruit is the number of carrier groups and new military vehicles that are being built. I do not know how much state tax credits and incentives are, but if you include the battery grants and loans and charger grants we have already spent billions of plug-ins. The question really is, if 10 years from now in 2022 we have a significant percentage of plug-ins, and it reduces oil consumption. If we do not then the money is a waste. If we do its an investment
^^^of course we are both *assuming* 100% recovery of the tax credits but we know some people are not able to take the credits. It would be interesting to know actual IRS credit numbers for comparison.
