Glove compartment latch broken

The lower glove comartment knob on my 2008 prius wiil not stay in place. when the door is closed, the knob pops out. It appears to be part of a larger module that connects to the latch, but i cant figure out how to connect it. Toyota sells the entire latch mechanism, that includes both the upper and lower knob mechanisms, for over $100. I'm looking for a simple fix without having to replace the whole latch mechnism. Anyone have any success with this?
