GM CEO: Chevy Volt “has been a home runâ€

That seems overstated, to put it nicely.
I do hope the Volt does well. But they seem tone missing this years expectations. Now if he said 'the Volt will be a home run' rather than 'has been a home run' it would just be normal marketing bluster.

 

an 'infield' home run? they getting more creative than gm.

 

Translation: GM is not going to meet its sales goal of 10,000 Volts this year, but the company is looking forward to selling six times as many next year.

Oh yeah, and they ramped up their production capacity to 16K for 2011 (Green Car Congress: Chevrolet Volt plant prepping for boost in Volt and Ampera production; exports to Canada, China and Europe this year).

 

The sales projection may not be that far off ... remember GE announced they were buying a huge (unremembered} number. Plus exports. But I would be greatly surprised if they sell that many to the public in the US.

 

"People are saying he's been an expensive failure, but we think Volt has great potential, and even though he's not getting hits right now, he's helping the team by drawing walks, which has boosted Cruze's numbers."

 

This guy doesn't even play by his own rules, the sales numbers are way below his projections even as recently as the spring.
