This is an interesting report from Oak Ridge Labs on burning coal. It turns out that "Americans living near coal-fired power plants are exposed to higher radiation doses than those living near nuclear power plants that meet government regulations." Coal is a pretty impure fuel. Research shows that "the energy content of nuclear fuel released in coal combustion is more than that of the coal consumed." Bottom line is that we need to be more aware of the effects of our collective lifestyles and economies on the health of the planet and ourselves. Something to think about before adding that plasma tv to the guest room. http://www.ornl.gov/info/ornlreview/rev26-...xt/colmain.html
You're preaching to the choir..... everyone wants what they want for their own "needs" as opposed to what is best for the planet or our neighborhood or even (for those folks who continue to smoke around their kids) our own families.
Yep. This is well known by people living in places like New Mexico, with that Four Corners coal-fired plant. NM also has a big uranium mine, so I'm sure the residents would like to see clean nuclear power supplant coal. Well, maybe not all of 'em...
