After purchasing my PIP I came to realize there are nearly zero public charging stations in my town. Interesting since one of the large charging station manufacturers is located just up the street. :/ After some digging, I found out there is grant money available to businesses and/or property owners who are interested in installing public charging stations. I would suggest sending this information to your employers or property managers for consideration. The grant covers the cost of charging infrastructure and install. It's a pretty sweet deal! You're right. I work in Carmichael and there's only 1 in the area. I use Recargo, Chargepoint and Plugshare to find new locations but it looks like most are in the parking garages downtown. I've also noticed that every Nissan dealer offers public charging but no Toyota dealers are listed
I noticed that too. I actually work in Auburn and there are only 2 stations and neither are in a place you would want to hang out. lol
lol Sacramento/Auburn are certainly not huge cities like NYC, but also not complete boonies that he would be going to RV parks to charge
Not every Nissan dealer does. I've heard complaints from Leafers where the dealer didn't have any charging. I've also heard stories about some Nissan dealers giving people a hard time or refusing to let people charge if they didn't buy their Leaf from that dealer. Hell, supposedly there's a Ford dealer and a Toyota dealer which have CHAdeMO chargers even though neither even MAKES a car that can use it! btw, just to clarify, the installation is free IF there is existing, legacy charging infrastructure in place (such as AVCON or paddle chargers). They will NOT just install a free charger at a site that has no prior charging infrastructure in place.
Actually, they will still honor the grant for new systems but you are on the hook for supplying the 240v infrastructure needed to power the systems. In my case I work in a fairly new business complex so there is stout electrical running between the buildings. It is easy to run new infrastructure to a section of parking lot where the chargers would be located. So in this instance, the owners of the complex would pay little out of pocket. The folks at Clipper Creek are super helpful. I'd give Will a call if you have questions. The deadline may be extending to March as well.
