Greetings all! With gas prices pushing 3dollars pr. litre here in Norway, I changed my 2008 Mini Clubman Cooper S for a 2010 mother of pearl white Prius Premium last week. The Premium is what I think you guys over the pond call a Five? It has leather, solar roof, navi with jbl, radar- and horrible 15" wheels. I was told by my Toyota dealer that all Premium models come with 15" to reduce weight!? (Because the solar roof is heavy) The Executive (Four?) comes with 17" as standard over here. I asked how much I had to pay for new 17", and I was told that the rims was 3400dollars, and that was without the tyres... So now I'm looking for a set of used ones. Unfortenately there is only one set for sale in the Oslo area. So my question is this: Does wheels to other Toyota models fit the gen3 Prius? There is a lot of wheels for sale, but not for the Prius. By the way, guess what a new Premium costs in Norway? 61.269dollars... Best regards, Marius
An alternative that looks good is get set of nice 15" wheels for about $400 (Tirerack.com) and then get slightly larger 205 vs. 195 tires. The tires don't look like toys as do the 195's and there is no mileage penalty that people see in the 17" wheels and tires.
Thank you for quick responds! Will 17" really do that much with the mpg? 9th of May is a day off here in Norway (latin: ascensio Domini)so I took the Prius for my first long testdrive today. I really like the car! What struck me first is that it's actually quite quick! Lot's of gizmoes, good handling and it's also not that noisy inside. First minus i noticed is that the seat is very short. For long drives my bottom will fall a sleep... And then there is the tires again, or the suspension- small bumps feels like driving on a brick road. Other than that it's fantastic! Really impressed by the cruise control radar! It even worked like a charm in heavy rain. I'll try to post some pictures later Jonny Zero- 62t is for a new car. I "only" paid 15600 for my 2010, with a 3 years dealership warranty and 35000miles on it. Even green cars get heavily taxed over here. Best regards, Marius
Your comment "small bumps feel like driving on a brick road" makes me think that your tires might be overinflated, worth a check.
I have a Five with 17". I have averaged 51MPG and I am a pretty conservative driver. I can prob break 55MPG with 15"s.
I am fairing just fine IMHO with 17" wheels.. see my Fuelly log... and latest tank looks like I am up to 48 mpg range. From what I gather, tires play a very important part when going with 17's. I have Toyo A20's for reference. Our package 4 comes with sunroof and 15" wheels. Our package 5 comes with no sunroof and 17" wheels.
ascension thursday. we don't get the day off, but we did have mass. as you can see, 17 inchers will probably cost you 4-5mpg.
Just filled up, latest tank 49.3mpg. I would say I was able to reach EPA's mpg's even with the 17's. I didn't take an alternate routes to achieve this neither. Only thing notable is there has been a little more traffic lately.
Wow thats even much higher than Israel - now with the weak $ selling here for about $44,000 was closer to 40k Don't forget that the $ savings on Gas is so much more because of the high price of gas. BTW liter gas sells for about $2 here ($7.5) still mush less than Norway
I changed from the stock 15's to the stock 17's and kept the same brand of tire (Bridgestone Ecopia's) and only noticed about a 2 mpg drop, so it was totally worth it to me.
