Ok, around here we still have grocery stores which have kids load your groceries for you. So, wife and I are both in the Prius. We pull up the car and show the kid our number of the grocery cart and the kid tries to open the hatchback door. He can't. The car is still running of course. We have the keys. Mine is in my pocket and my wifes is in her purse. So, how the heck does one get the hatchback door open under these conditions? Should it open? I went out and it wouldn't open. Dang. I had to go back and push the power button. Then went back out and the hatchback door opened. Isn't there a better way? yes, flames are expected hehe (yes, I did a search....no, didn't find anything useful)
Both fobs and you are in the car, right? Pressing the button that locks and unlocks all doors (on the driver's side) should unlock the hatchback as well (or am I missing the problem?). One thing I miss from my old car was the lever next to the gas door lever that opened the hatchback. Easier than climbing over into the back if there is no power.
I don't know I beat him or her to the hatch back and open it! Also you could stand close enough and he or she could open it.
I press the door unlock switch on the driver's interior controls (next to the window switches). That always works for me.
So, what am I missing? The keys are in the car. Why wouldn't anyone be able to open the hatchback then? Do the keys have to be outside the car? Signed, Confused over something so simple.
Doors have to be unlocked. Key fob commands and smart entry do not work when the car is on. You have to go inside and push "unlock" to unlock any other door. Unlock it before you get out of the car (if it's still running)... or.. do what you did.. turn it off when you leave the car.. but then you have another startup for the car *shrug*. if the car is warm, you lose a little mpg.
That's really odd, Three60. If not that it's cold, I'd go outside and play around with this. Common sense would dictate that when the doors are unlocked the hatch is also. Perhaps using the unlock button on the armrest would solve the problem. I'm gonna have to try this one of these days.
IIRC, the Prius has an internal sensor which detects the presence of the fob when it's inside the passenger compartment. Since all the fobs were inside, it assumed that an unauthorized person was trying to get in. I did what Boxster said and the hatchback unlocked. I left the fob in the car when I made the test.
Talk about habit...... In all other cars the unlock switch would not control the trunk. I was associating it the same way with the Prius. But alas, the Prius does not have a trunk. Thanks for the obvious answer. DUH <=== hitting myself on the side of the head. Boy, I hate when that happens.
when i unlock my doors remotely, only the drivers door unlocks unless i hit the unlock button twice then all doors unlock including the hatch
yes that is correct, but that only happens to me when im showing off the range of my remote. no one at work yet has been able to challenge my range
