I see that "The Critic", and maybe a few others, have replaced their Prius FUEL PUMP for preventative maintenance and to keep from being stranded. Excellent writeup and a big help by the way. Thanks! I have 245,450+ miles on my 2011 Prius and am wondering if the fuel pump replacement is really necessary. It's an expensive part. I've done the water pump, t-stat, OCC, etc. I've never had to do wheel bearings, yet and I'm on my original brakes. My question is: Has anyone ever had a FUEL PUMP on a Gen 3 Prius go bad?
Here was what @The Critic and I performed on our old 2010: What did you do to ur Gen III Prius today???? You can see the sediment in the inlet to the pump. I'd do the job to avoid the potential if you have the miles you do.
