I've been planning on getting a Prius for a while now, but I'm not quite ready to take the plunge yet. I found out about Fighting Chance through www.carbuyingtips.com and it seemed like it would have good information, so I wound up buying the information/guide for the Prius. I was wondering if anyone had used the fax/email attack method mentioned in the guide to buy the Prius? The guide mentions that the fax/email attack would work on 95% of the cars out there, but probably not on "hot", new or rare cars. Is the Prius still considered a "hot" car still? If you have used that method, was the price you got it for significantly different then what people that are not using the method getting? I'm curious to know if it's worth the effort on this car.
Won't work with Toyota for new, there isn't a policy "the dealer may sell for less" policy, sale price is constant. Used cars is an open market w/o standards. (used Prius for sale are about as rare as UFO sightings) Only with add'l options that you could possibly deal with the F&I manager, the more aftermarket options you add, the better the rebate. If you want 5+ options (say 3k$ worth) you could pin multiple dealers against each other. I also say the same ploy "to save you hundreds" buying a new computer - that too doesn't apply anymore, because markup margins are too low. My best advice so far, is be very very interested in a model that's in stock at the dealer on the 27th day of the month. A Toyota dealer won't negotiate a lower price, but you can get free goodies, like 3M Tissue Protection for the seats, or 10 free oil changes, etc.
If it is a used Prius you're looking for, you might come here. The prices are usually reasonable, and they are more common than UFO sightings. There were two black ones at the dealer when I bought mine, so I bought the one with nav. There was also a blue one in Richmond (not that far a drive for me), but it was grossly overpriced. Simply, once you leave the Washington DC metro area, it becomes more likely to find one.
