Yesterday I started working on installing an EV mode switch following this write-up. I stupidly left the 12V battery connected while working on the first stage, which involves disconnecting the connector for the headlight/turn signal stalk. When I reconnected the connector, I heard a constant tone that I'd never heard before. I eventually realized it was the "headlights on" warning tone; it went away after I turned the headlight selector knob to off. Prior to this, the car would turn off the headlights when the car was turned off, even if the headlight switch remained on. Now the headlights will come on when the switch is rotated to the headlight position and the car is off, and it's always accompanied by that constant tone. Is there a way to revert back to the way the car used to operate, where the headlights would go off when the ignition was turned off? I'm hoping there's a Konami code of switches and button presses that can do it, but I'd settle for a trip to the dealer if they can do it.
I think in the Toyota software there's some changes you can make to how the headlights operate and so on I don't have the owner's manual I mean there's one out and one of the cars but I'm pretty sure that that is a fact I do not know how to do it I know in my Toyota laptop with the Toyota software on it I can do it from the software when I'm scanning the car I can turn off all kinds of security features and make the headlights turn on and off certain ways not flash when I unlock the doors etc.
Curiously, the problem seems to have fixed itself. I went for a short drive today, with headlights on, and when I turned the car off, the headlights went out as soon as I opened the driver's door. No annoying tone. I think maybe I got the tone because I unplugged and re-plugged the connector all while the driver's door was open. It seems the opening of the door triggers the lights going off.
