Has anybody installed a heated seat kit like this one: Carbon Fiber Universal Heated Seat Heater Kit 2 Seats | eBay on their own? Any advice, I'd like to tackle this.
Cold seats are not often a major issue here in coastal NC, but I think if it were and I was thinking about this I would have to consider replacing the whole seat. There so many better ones out there, probably most of them, and many already are setup for heat. I love this car, but the seats, not so much. Of course there is a big cost difference, I suspect, between adding this heat setup and replacing the seats.
The major problem with replacing the seats is with the side air bags not being designed for the car you are fitting them to.
Im presented with a decision... a local shop will install 2 front heated seats for $220 OTD. Or I buy the kits for $80 on ebay, buy a dog whatever tool to get the clips off, and lose a day of my time. But save $140. But maybe lose some sanity...lol.
I normally like to do my own work, but this job sounds tedious and for the sort of money quoted would go with the local shop. Coward ar'nt I?
The Clazzio and Katskin covers are designed for seat-mounted air bags. One could easily slip seat warmers between the factory seat fabric and Clazzio covers. Much less of a hassle than installing the seat warmers under the factory fabric.
i have to laugh every time i replace a seat cover on a benz cause the seat heater shocked or burned a customer's @$$...
In his post Steve was talking about replacing the seats completely, that's why I mentioned the air bags. I know the seat covers allow for the side airbags.
Ok Ive done some research (I know you were waiting for an update from me!) Im thinking of getting the Clazzio leather or PVC seat covers and installing the heated seats underneath those. That seems SOOOOO much easier than pulling up the factory cloth. Anybody done anything like that?
