I really wanted to purchase a tesla model 3, however, range anxiety is a big concern for me so I am going to buy the next best thing. A Prius Prime Technology package. Get the cool large screen for controling the systems, get a decent all electric range for running around town and get 1000km from a tank of gas on long trips. Plus, no range anxiety. Just pull into the gas station and refill. I am going to go full electric at some point, but this will let me dip my toes in.
That's the idea of plug-in hybrids - to let you see how you can manage with electric range and charging but having that backup gasoline engine in case.
Exactly. I do love the 1000ish kms of range. Like I said, coming from my Lifted wrangler where 350-400 was the norm. That was 70 liters of gas too.
The tank size is only 43 litres but the low fuel light will come on at 35 litres (just FYI so you might be seeing 800ish km before the light comes on). I haven't tried seeing what my range is since I'm always plugging in and driving in EV mode but in my old Gen 3 Prius (2010), I managed 951km on 41 litres of gas. Given that the Prime is more efficient than my old Prius in HV mode, I suspect it can probably do 1,000km.
I had one out for a drive today, both my wife and I LOVE it. My childhood friend is a salesperson at toyota here. We have all the particulars done, and we are going to be inking the deal in a couple of months. Once I start working.
There are some situations where it is simply unbeatable. If you get caught in traffic or have to wait in the car for a while, it is great to be able to do so all electric. And like you say, with no range anxiety.
It is the perfect car for us really. I will be putting 17's on it, but they will be lightweight and LRR tires as well so I don't lose too much range.

Is this the same thing as the "Limited" model? (Which I think they sometimes also call the "Advanced" model?)
Thanks, I've been window shopping used Prius Primes, and the way they use different names for the same thing makes them hard to compare.
