My Prius dealer referred me to the site. I barely know how to use word and email so what's a thread. I still haven't picked up my Prius, all paid for, 08, Package 6. I'm still trying to figure out the XM thing. Seems like that was a popular question. I want to integrate it and don't want to pay a premium with Toyota. What's the bottom line. I read about something that costs $295 and I get a video and I install it myself. I'm doubtful that I can do it even though I can fly airplanes. Thanks.
A thread is a series of posts under one title. With your first post you created a new thread. My post is the second in this thread. Note, also, there are a number of sub forums and sub-sub-forums. You posted the "newbie" sub forum of the "Toyota Prius Forums" of the Main PriusChat.com forum/site. Spend some time just poking around, read through the 'stickies' (these are the more-or-less permanant posts at the top of each forum and sub-forum deemed of significant interest and importance) and you should be able to find lots of new and interesting information that will keep you from asking some of the more common newbie questions. BTW, Welcome to PriusChat!
Welcome to Priuschat! This is a helpful explanation of what a Thread is Threaded discussion - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Don't be afraid of our Grumpy Old Moderator. He's actually quite nice, just keep him away from hard liquor Oh wait, keep ME away from hard liquor
Add a welcome from Australia as well. Wander around the site, read a few threads (now that you know what they are) and enjoy. I have learnt lots of things here, and I am sure that you will too. Just be careful, you will start running into all sorts of shorthand. I know that it got me scratching my head a few times, but it is surprising how quickly you pick things up around here.
What's Up Doc? Are you truely Rolling On The Floor Laughing Your Arms Off? BTW, I think Even was very kind and gentle in answering the OP question about threads. I have always wondered what they were and was afraid to ask. All I could think of was the cloths that Greg Brady wore were his threads. I liked the Wikipedia link too.
My personal take is that a "thread" is a single conversation. A "post" is one person's input into that conversation. I grew up in a large family. So I think about Thanksgiving at the Schaefer household. There are more than a dozen people sitting around the table carrying on multiple conversations. Sometimes the same person will bounce between multiple conversations. And when the extended family comes to visit, there are multiple tables. If you tried to listen to them all, you'd go insane! Here on Priuschat, there are literally dozens of active threads (conversations) at any given time. And like the different dinner tables, there are the different forums that Evan mentioned. Each forum is designed to house threads geared towards specific topics. The threads grow - like this one - with each person's reply (post) to the thread. I hope that helped though it might have confused.
Then my wife comes into a thread (conversation) half an hour after that topic has finished and after everyone looks at her like they don't know what she is on, the thread comes back and more information is added.
I just want to thank all of you for your welcome and encouragement. I'm not even sure how to write a reply. I did manage to pick up my new Prius today. Almost crashed it trying to figure out how to tune the radio to any station. Monday I'll have to start reading the manual. My priority is XM radio install and mudflaps. I could use a bottom line on the XM from anyone who knows.
I don't have personal experience with XM radio installation. But you might find these instructions useful: https://www.metrotpn.com/documents/PDF Files/Prius/Eddie's XMRadio Install/PriusXMradio3.2.pdf
