does anybody know if HID Headlights are leagle in California. Please help can't find anything on the web about it.
I cannot see why they would be illegal if they are standard equipment on various models of vehicles sold. So yes, they are legal.
I email our ok al sheriff and haven't got a responce yet but my grind had 12k hid's and got a fix it ticket.
12,000K! no wonder. Those are not even useable as headlights are they? Factory HIDs are almost always below 5000K, 4300K in my BMW. The real blue ones are just for show, not enough light in the frequency range that your eyes can see to be practical as headlights, but they do produce a lot of glare.
So your not talking stock HID's then I take it. 12k HID's are nowhere near what is 'standard equipment'. Considering how off color they must have been, I can see why a ticket was issued...
PLEASE learn how to communicate. Are you saying that you emailed an Oklahoma sheriff? Don't you live in California? What did you ask him? Also, what do you mean by "grind"? Is that a mispelling of the word "grand", as in one thousand dollars? I don't usually nitpick, but your post is ludicrous in how garbled it is. I have no idea what you meant.
Here is an interview with an NHSTA expert - "It's contrary to federal regulations for these "High Intensity Discharge" (HID) bulb conversion kits to be sold." washingtonpost.com: Vehicle Lighting
Installing HIDs in standard housings is apparently illegal in all 50 states, so yes they're illegal unless they're factory-equipped.
I finally translated "ok al" as "local" and "grind" as "friend" but those are just guesses after much squinting. Whew. Anyway: High Intensity Discharge (HID) FAQ and Installation
We should not need to learn how to translate this gibberish. A few members including me have asked the OP to work on his grammar, spelling - and if it is the fault of the input device he mentioned he's using - an iPod I believe - please use another. This is very irritating and I will not take part in Threads as this. Not even sure if this person is serious, and not just scamming all of us. Just had to get this off my chest. I mean , we have Dave the Blind Guy taking part in the Forum and being a very constructive member. His posts are wonderful, accurate, and easy to read, even with his challenges. Moderators - am I making a too-big deal out of this?
In California, the lights have to be DOT approved to be legal. Aftermarket HIDs are not DOT approved. The HIDs in my 2007 are DOT approved (they were original equipment) so they are legal in Calif.
nobody told you to read my post if you dont like them then dont read them, ok. and yea im scaming information on cars....wow how low can you get......
oh ok thank you...nice dog looks like my (chi-wa-wa) yea its spelt nthat wrong but thats a hard name if you dont spell it often
PriusChat Forums - FAQ: General Forum Usage explains how not to see posts by HelpSaveMotherEarth again. (copy the name before you click) Or, you could just not read his/her posts.
Hey look, this web forum is not your personal blog. If you expect people to take the time to reply to your "posts", then you take the time to properly construct a message. If you really are in "collage" then you have surely wasted your money! Thank you, I am adding him/her to my block list now.
This is my 1st post - a new 2010 Prius owner. I find this Forum extremely interesting and have found some wonderful information. Thank you. BUT I must say, I too am displeased with the Original Poster's poor posts. They are very difficult to read and comprehend. I have run into several of his threads here and surprised more members are not voicing displeasure. I am member of several other forums and find this type of behavior by the OP lazy and disrespectful of others. I know I don't have to read this person's input but skipping over would lose potential information and input from others.
Dear OP, Please don't think we are being harsh. If you don't believe me try posting on Off Topic at www.nasioc.com :welcome: P.S. sometimes i type too fastr sands hve to edit myy postts
