Hey all, please help with some insight. I just replaced the center left air vent (where the parking button is housed), but when I put everything back together I noticed there is a gap between the the left edge of the "new" vent and the right edge of the top portion of the dash (where the power button is housed). I compared the secondhand part I bought with the older one, which is broken, so the comparison is not super easy, but there seem to be slight differences on the mounting tabs. Is that possible? Thanks for any tips or info!
best advice I can give is take it back off, get a good flashlight and compare the tabs and clips on the vent panel to the slots in the dash. make sure each tab IS IN the little slot its supposed to go in. you might have to jiggle it a little when you push it into place; sometimes the clips don't want to cooperate. I think (but its been a while since I've removed one) the top of the vent panel kinda needs to be pushed home first and then the bottom.
Thanks much for your reply. I will give it another shot. So in theory, a 2006 vent panel should fit a 2007 seamlessly, correct?
I pulled a 2005 left ac vent and tried to put it in my 2007, it did not align. The part numbers for 2004-2005 and 2006-2009 are actually different. I ended up shaving the black dash panel down with a knife but there is still a gap. I think of it as my homage to Tesla. There is an old thread somewhere on this forum about my experience. Good luck
That would be correct. 2004-2005 was the initial release of Gen 2 then in 2006 they did the facelift/refresh. So while 2004 - 2005 parts are interchangeable as are 2006 - 2009, because of the facelift pre and post facelift cannot necessarily interchangeable. With interior trim part, you also need to take into account the color of the parts.
Thanks for the replies! Sounds like it was not me being clueless, but parts actually being slightly different.
