Hey guys on sat I got the car tinted. Today tuesday was the first day I was able to roll the windows down after a 3 day dry period. I noticed that on all the window when it get about 5 inches from the top or so it slows down like theres rubbing/resistance somewhere. Has anyone experienced this. Im not sure if the windows were like this pre tint. I also noticed if i grab the glass I can shift it left and right. Any thoughts on this, do they open up the door to put on tint? Will it open and close normally after a few? thanks again Anthony
The slowing down is normal and does that on my vehicle as well. I haven't tried grabbing the glass to see if it shifts though.
Totally normal. See http://priuschat.com/forums/knowled...61167-2010-prius-window-specs.html#post840041
Well Ill be damned, thanks 32k. When I sold cars alot of cars had slow window issues although throughout the whole track. Quite often Id see the window popping out of track with issues I dont need that happening. Thanks for the fast responses.
I noticed that when the window goes up /down, the door panel moves. Is that related to my tint? Anyone with untinted windows do the same? I don't want an issue if I have to get warranty work done down the road.
The amount of play the windows have was a concern to me as well. It seemed they shouldnt be able to shift left to right that much. I have a v wagon so it looks like it affects the Prius in general. I even went to the dealer and my salesman was surprised at how loose they seemed so we checked the others on the lot and they were the same.
That's normal too. Yep, affects the Prius across the board. So far, nobody has had their windows fallen out of the track on their Prius like back in the OP's car selling days or other issues so you don't have much to be concerned about.
This is normal. When I first got my windows tinted I thought the same thing since my 2011 didn't slow down towards the top. It is just a new feature in the 2012 where the window will slow down when it almost reaches the top instead of the usually fast speed all the way through. As for being able to shift the window left and right, I'm not sure. I never tried wiggling any of the windows left to right. Is this happening with each of the windows?
Maybe the 2012 has it on all the windows (can someone confirm?), but this feature has been present in the rear windows on all the Gen IIIs.
Maybe your windows have a "snag safety" mechanism where the the windows stop and roll down when an arm or something get stuck while the windows roll up?
That's a different feature from what the OP described. In some cases, the window safety stop can be triggered by the extra resistance from the tint and the auto up function can be reset as follows:
I never rolled down the back windows before in my 2011 so I just noticed it differently in the front two.
