Hello, New to the forum but not new to Prius. I have three in the family. Just had a front end collision in 2004 Prius with expensive HID headlight system. I have a donor car, a 2008, and I was hoping I could just swap the simple headlight assembly in place of the HID headlight assembly. But as I am trying to install the 2008 assembly I have no idea as to how to connect up the simple assembly in place of the old HID assembly. The HID assemblies got smashed. Do I have to buy all brand HID new assemblies? Is there a way to "hot-wire" the simple assembly into the HID wiring and make it work? I never wanted the HID lights anyway. Am I stuck with this system forever? This is actually my daughter's car so there is a lot of stress involved here.

There is a thread about how to do this here. Look around and you will find it.

There are threads on the HID light topic that are close, but I am asking a slightly different question than what others are asking. The other threads assume that nothing has been damaged and they just want to swap bulbs within the original HID housing assembly. My HID housings are smashed and I do not want to pay big bucks for HID housings. I just want to use the cheap housings, and install the cheap bulbs, and I am finding out that no one has done that yet. And the reason it has not been done (as far as I can figure out) is because of how different the two housings are. The guts are quite different. Switching to a different bulb is one thing. But switching both the housings and the bulbs is something else. If someone has done it and written about it I have not found it.

I am little confused. You are wanting to replace the stock HID lights with stock halogen lights? If that is what you are trying to do, then it should be simple enough. Stock halogen lights run off a fuse (and possibly a relay) that is in the fuse box. Since your car had HID lights, the wiring will be different and you will need to rewire the car for halogens. It's not difficult, but you will have to to some electrical work. If you are looking for plug and play, I think you may be out of luck.

It's been done and there are threads on PC with details. If you are willing to give up high beams all that needs to be done is to cut and splice the supply lines.
