Just a few years ago, if you wanted a hybrid vehicle you had to drive an odd-looking car such as the Honda Insight or the early version of the Toyota Prius. These eco-friendly cars appealed mainly to environmentalists such as David Suzuki and techo-geeks who loved watching the colourful instrument panel display showing the hybrid system at work. But now hybrids have gone mainstream.
