Highest Fuel Economy in the Most Popular Classes

The 2005 vehicles—including pickups, vans and SUVs—that lead their classes for the most efficient fuel consumption, according to EPA data.

A high-technology two-seater such as the Honda Insight is bound to lead all other vehicles in fuel economy for the 2005 model year. With a lightweight, small body, and an innovative hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain, Insight is rated at an impressive 66 miles per gallon on the highway and 61 mpg in the city.

What if you can't possibly squeeze your family and all its transportation needs into a two-seat car? There are still plenty of economical choices.

Each year the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) publishes fuel economy estimates for most new passenger vehicles sold in the U.S. The EPA also provides best-in-class fuel economy ratings by vehicle type.

    LOL!

Prius outscores Compacts, Subcompacts and MiniCompacts.

Is the Prius bigger than a small station wagon?

That's not bad for the Ford SUV hybrid.

Any mileage out on Toyota's new Highlander Hybrid?

If the smart ever comes here officially, it will kick some real butts in the subcompact category.
